Some are blind to equality and injustice
“Equality can be hard to understand”

As a Social Work student, I have come across a lot of things that I can’t even believe we still allow in our society, things like the gender wage gap and the inequality of genders. I’m going to start this section on this site that will be dedicated to current social injustices and what we can do about them.

What causes a social injustice? We will need to look at the environment, how we socialize, our biology, religion, culture, race, and so much more, and not just within ourselves but within our communities, our society as a whole, and even our country and world. We will also need to dig back into the past and see where and why certain things started, such as asking the question “Why do women make less than men in almost every career?”

Social injustice has consequences to our society, ourselves, and those we interact with. I’ll be going into that deeper, looking at things like how the gender pay gap effects a single mother trying to raise a child on her own. I use the gender pay gap as the main example here, only because I don’t want to go into a ton of different injustices and find myself down those rabbit holes on this introduction page.

I will be discussing who is it that fights social injustices, it doesn’t just have to be someone in the social work field, we see a fight for social equality and justice through regular citizens, some during city commission meetings, others through protests, and even through calling a state representative. Anyone can fight against inequality!

Finally, what are the solutions to some of the bigger problems? Is it something where we need a complete policy change, such as our welfare system here in the United States, or is it something smaller on the mezzo or micro levels that can start within a city and be built up from there?

I hope you take this journey with me as I go through a lot of things that I am very passionate about.
